Why consider a Breast Lift?
Women who are satisfied with the size of their breasts, but would like to see their youthful contours restored may find a breast lift beneficial to raise and reshape sagging breasts, removing excess skin and tightening tissue.

How it's done
The specific mastopexy technique used will be based on an individual evaluation, but generally two incisions are made: one around the areola and one that runs vertically from the bottom edge of the areola to the crease under the breast. Sometimes a third that runs horizontal beneath the breast along the crease is needed. The surgery lasts 2 to 3 hours and is usually performed using general anesthesia.

Expectations
The ultimate results of the breast lift will appear over the following few months as the breast shape and position continue to settle. The benefits of the surgery are best maintained through weight control, a healthy lifestyle and proper support.

Side Effects/Risks
Common side effects of breast lift surgery include temporary bruising, swelling, discomfort, numbness, dry breast skin and permanent scars.

The risks associated with mastopexy surgery include blood pooling beneath the skin, thick, wide scars, skin loss, infection, unevenly positioned nipples and permanent loss of feeling in nipples or breast.

Healing Process
Following breast lift surgery, there will likely be swelling and discomfort around the incisions, which will need to be cleansed as directed by the physician. A support bra may be recommended for the first three weeks. The initial wound healing will range from 7 to 14 days, when any sutures will be removed. Patients can resume light activity and return to work within a week of surgery but should avoid strenuous activity for 4-6 weeks to allow for proper healing.
