Why consider a Body Lift?
Body lift surgery improves the shape and tone of the underlying tissue in areas where elasticity is poor. Excess fat and skin are removed, minimizing cellulite and creating a firmer, more youthful looking body. No other method of body contouring is as effective at restoring body shape and skin appearance.
How it's done
This procedure is customized to the individual needs of the patient, so incision patterns and locations will vary. A lower body lift may place incisions in a bikini pattern to tighten the abdomen, groin, waist, thighs and buttocks. A circumferential incision around the body also may be used. Sutures are used in the underlying tissue to help form newly shaped contours. A lift also can include brachioplasty to correct the upper arm area.
Side Effects/Risks
Common side effects include swelling and discomfort, which can be managed with medication.
The risks associated with this surgery include bleeding, infection, fluid accumulations, delayed or poor wound healing, skin loss, blood clots, excessive or widened scars, numbness or other changes in skin sensation and irregular scars. Surgery also does carry risks associated with anesthesia.
Healing Process
Following surgery, the incisions will be wrapped in bandages to minimize swelling and support the new contours. One or more small tubes may be temporarily placed under the skin to drain any excess fluid or blood. Patients must avoid bending, straining or lifting for several days but will be instructed to return to light walking as soon as possible to minimize the potential for blood clots. Light, normal activity can be resumed within 2 to 3 weeks and patients can return to work in one to two weeks, provided there is no heavy lifting or vigorous exercise.
