Releated Photo Gallaries: Breast Lifts

Why consider a Breast Lift with Dr. Todd Case in Tucson?

Women who are satisfied with the size of their breasts, but would like to see their youthful contours restored may find a breast lift beneficial to raise and reshape sagging breasts, removing excess skin and tightening tissue. A breast lift is a common breast enhancement procedure that can be performed with or without breast augmentation with breast implants depending on your goals.

How it's done

The specific mastopexy technique used will be based on an individual evaluation, but generally two incisions are made: one around the areola and one that runs vertically from the bottom edge of the areola to the crease under the breast. Sometimes a third incision that runs horizontal beneath the breast along the crease is needed. The degree of lift will typically determine the number and length of incisions necessary. Some patients may require other incision techniques. The "lollipop lift" involves one incision around the perimeter of the areola and another that goes vertically from the bottom of the areola to the breast crease (inframammary fold). An "anchor lift'" adds an incision along the breast crease. The "donut lift" involves an incision around the perimeter of the areola. A "crescent lift" involves an incision just along the upper half of the areola and is usually performed with breast augmentation. Your choice of breast lift technique should take into consideration your degree of breast sagging. Incisions are made to create flaps where excess skin needs to be removed. Excess skin is removed along with the repositioning of the nipple and areola. The nipple is normally placed so that it will be positioned at or slightly above the level the breast crease. The surgery usually lasts 2 to 3 hours and is usually performed using general anesthesia.

Side Effects/Risks

Common side effects of breast lift surgery include temporary bruising, swelling, discomfort, numbness, dry breast skin and scars.

The risks associated with mastopexy surgery include blood pooling beneath the skin, thick, wide scars, skin loss, infection, unevenly positioned nipples and loss of feeling in nipples or breast.

Healing Process

Following breast lift surgery, there will likely be swelling and discomfort around the incisions. A support bra may be recommended for the first three weeks. The initial wound healing will range from 7 to 14 days, when any sutures will be removed. Patients can resume light activity and return to work within a week of surgery but should avoid strenuous activity for 4-6 weeks to allow for proper healing.
