Why consider Male Breast Reduction with Dr. Todd Case in Tucson?
Did you know that men represent one of the fastest growing patient demographics for cosmetic procedures? An increased awareness of treatments for male gynecomastia is helping male patients learn about surgical solutions. Male breast reduction is a solution for men who would like to minimize the appearance of gynecomastia, or excessively large breasts caused by excess glandular tissue and fat. You may also improve your appearance with a male breast reduction (gynecomastia), if you have sagging tissue in your chest area or have lost a large amount of weight.
How it's done
Male breast reduction can be performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, on an outpatient basis. Fat or excess breast tissue can be removed with liposuction, excision, or a combination of procedures. An incision is usually made under the areola. Through the incision, excess tissue, fat and skin are removed from around the areola and from the bottom and sides of the breast. Liposuction may be used when the gynecomastia is caused mostly by excessive fatty tissue.
Patients should notice a more masculine contour in the breast area.
Common side effects include temporary bruising, swelling, numbness, soreness and a burning sensation.
The risks associated with this surgery include infection, fluid accumulation, injury to the skin, rippling or bagginess of the skin, asymmetry, pigment changes that can become permanent if exposed to the sun and excessive scarring. A second procedure may be necessary to remove additional tissue.
Following surgery, the breast area will be swollen and bruised. An elastic pressure garment may be needed for the first three weeks. Patients can resume light activity and return to work within 3 to 7 days after the surgery.
