Ear Surgery or Otoplasty Surgery
Protruding ears or disfigured ears can be a physical feature that can make anyone at any age feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. Ear surgery is a very individualized procedure that can help restore balance and proportion to your ears and face. Children can sometimes be the victims of unwanted nicknames and teasing. The surgery can be performed after your ears have reached near adult size which is about nine years of age. Adults may have the surgery performed along with another surgical procedure. Patients often range from children to teenagers and adults. Each patient age group has its expectations, goals and concerns. Otoplasty or ear surgery can reshape ears, pin back ears, reduce ear size, make ears more symmetrical, improve the position of ears, correct a defect in the ear structure, repair ears due to injury or correct a previous ear surgery.
A good candidate for ear surgery is: in good physical and emotion health, children should be cooperative and able to follow instructions, children should be able to communicate their feelings, children whose ears have reached near adult size (about 9 years old.)
